A London gang of criminals perfect an audacious train robbery, netting £2 million in used banknotes destined for incineration.

The pickup, near Newcastle, goes horribly wrong.

The pickup crew are apprehended on their way back to London, empty-handed. One of the 2 criminals dies; the other is arrested for a murder committed near Newcastle, which delayed their arrival at the pickup point.

The Mob sends one of their gangsters up to Newcastle to find the money. Scotland Yard send up one of their detectives. The local police and the local Newspaper are also involved.
